Some audio systems are built to last — and this recent home theatre project completed by HAP Singapore was a perfect example of that philosophy.
The homeowner had already been enjoying his Bowers & Wilkins front speakers for many years, and despite the age of the system, the performance remained exceptionally refined and engaging. Instead of replacing what already worked beautifully, the goal of this upgrade was to expand the experience into a more immersive and modern home cinema environment while preserving the character and performance of the original setup.
A Home Audio System Built to Last
One of the most meaningful aspects of this project was seeing how well the original Bowers & Wilkins speakers continued to perform after years of ownership.
In a world where technology often feels disposable, premium audio products remain one of the few investments that can continue delivering exceptional performance for decades when properly integrated and cared for. The client did not want to replace the system simply for the sake of upgrading. Instead, the vision was to build around the strengths of the existing speakers and evolve the experience into something even more immersive.
This approach not only preserves the emotional connection the homeowner already had with the system, but also highlights the long-term value of investing in quality audio equipment.
Expanding Into a Full 5.1 Home Theatre Experience
To transform the setup into a complete cinematic environment, we integrated Bowers & Wilkins CCM7.5 S2 in-ceiling surround speakers to create a full 5.1 home theatre system.
The ceiling speakers were selected for their ability to deliver detailed and spacious surround effects while maintaining a discreet architectural appearance within the living room. By carefully positioning the surround channels within the ceiling, the system achieves a far more immersive listening experience without disrupting the clean aesthetics of the space.
Whether watching films, streaming concerts, or enjoying everyday entertainment, the addition of proper surround sound dramatically changes how the room feels. Audio moves more naturally throughout the environment, creating a deeper sense of realism and immersion that traditional stereo playback alone cannot fully replicate.
Epson LS800 Ultra Short Throw Projection Experience
For the visual experience, the system was paired with the Epson LS800 ultra short throw laser projector together with a 100-inch VIVIDSTORM floor-rising ALR screen.
The Epson LS800 was chosen specifically for its ability to deliver large-format cinematic viewing while remaining practical for modern living room environments. Unlike traditional projector systems that require ceiling mounting and long cable runs, the ultra short throw design allows the projector to sit neatly at the front console area while still producing a massive image size.
This creates a cleaner and more elegant installation while avoiding many of the visual compromises associated with conventional projection systems.
The LS800 also delivers impressive brightness and viewing performance, making it highly suitable for everyday use within open-concept living spaces where ambient light conditions can vary throughout the day.
100” VIVIDSTORM Floor-Rising ALR Screen Integration
To complement the projector system, we integrated a 100-inch VIVIDSTORM floor-rising ambient light rejecting screen.
One of the key advantages of a floor-rising screen system is the ability to preserve the flexibility and aesthetics of the living room when the cinema system is not in use. When retracted, the screen remains discreetly hidden within its housing, allowing the space to maintain a clean and uncluttered appearance.
The ALR screen material also plays an important role in enhancing image quality within living room environments by helping reject ambient light and improving perceived contrast during viewing.
Combined with the Epson LS800, the result is a viewing experience that feels immersive, refined, and highly practical for everyday use.
Designing a Living Room That Feels Like a Private Cinema
Modern home theatre design is no longer just about adding equipment into a room. It is about creating an environment that feels natural, immersive, and comfortable to live in every day.
For this project, careful attention was placed on balancing technology integration with the overall aesthetics of the living space. The projector system, surround speakers, and screen solution were all selected to work harmoniously within the home without creating an overly technical appearance.
The final result is a living room that transforms effortlessly into a cinematic entertainment space while still remaining elegant and welcoming for daily living.
Why Great Speakers Continue to Matter After Many Years
Projects like this are a strong reminder that truly great speakers do not become obsolete after only a few years.
When high-quality audio products are thoughtfully selected and properly integrated, they can continue delivering outstanding performance long after trends and technologies change around them. Instead of constantly replacing equipment, strategic upgrades and system expansion often provide a more meaningful improvement to the overall experience.
For this homeowner, the original Bowers & Wilkins speakers remained the emotional and sonic foundation of the entire system — with the new additions simply elevating the experience into a more complete and immersive home cinema environment.
